had "hot pot" with the people staying at the 2xs crib... I DIDNT REALIZE I MISS NAPA CABBAGE SO MUCH. i think its my favourite veggie. we didnt have a big pot so we cooked everything in 2 small pots and in batches, so every time those 2 small pots came out everyone snatched like crazy

woke up early in the morning for Nick L's contemporary class, got called out! quite surprised... cos its like my 3rd contemp class? i think im still lacking in strength and technique and flexibility. but as usual, someone taking vid again so half my mind was distracted.
im slowly falling in love with the dance style, i think it reaches someplace much deeper than hip hop :)

yesterday suhan and nash and i went to 6 FLAGS!!!
i was so scared at first, but after a few rides u just learn to let go. even till now i can't believe that i rode so many roller coasters... almost 10?? but it was so fun!!! the most fun i ever had this year maybe! but the lines were so super long. suhan said usually there's no queue... we had to wait like 1hr+ for the last few rides. X2 was our last ride, supposedly the scariest. and suhan rode with nash, so i sad alone. somehow when you sit alone u dont feel like screaming... hahaha

it's called deja vu... basically they pull you backwards up the tall tower thing, suspend u for a while, then they drop you... then u spin n spin n spin n spin... then u go up another tall tower thing, then they drop u again and u go through everything backwards...

X2... check out the near vertical drop
on the way i was just telling the rest i buay tahan vertical drops... then suhan said dont have. then we saw magic mountain in the distance and 2 things scared the hell out of me... this is the first.

n this is the 2nd... its called superman. SO HIGH!! they just shoot u up and drop u back down!

tatsu... world's longest roller coaster?? according to suhan. and after they strap u in they put u in a position such that ur back is against the track. but still not as scary as deja vu...

yesterday i took 6 1/2 classes, by the time i reached the 7th class the guy was teaching so hella fast i just decided to sit out... my brain couldnt take it lol
at least today was redeeming, i only took 3 classes but one was repeat choreo and the rest i could catch steps... took my first class at millenium, omg so hella gooooodddd!!! im damn bad with names so i can't remember the choreographer's name. lol. but he choreographed EGO by beyonce, damn nice choreo!!! very nice to dance! i will look for vid & post if i find it.
3rd class was a replacement, supposed to be R&B hip hop but it had a lot of isolations in it. which i was very scared of, but pulled through in the end lah.

dancing here is seriously so DIFFERENT! i mean i've heard it from people but it doesnt really sink in till you're actually in class. at this point i just feel very sian cos i can't reach their standard and my brain doesn't absorb as fast as the rest of them. the japanese dancers are CRAZY good... catching steps, stylizing, peforming.

hi from kansas city folks!
it has been an absolutely terrible dayyy
i spent a bulk of it trying to make my luggage lighter but gave up after a while
then i wanted to post my box of winter clothes back to singapore but it was too big so i had to post it to LA instead
then we headed off to the airport to get stuck in the mother of all traffic jams
arrived 1/2 hr before departure which should have been ok,
but my airline required us to be there 45 mins early...
so i had to buy another ticket :(

fiona and i took part in battlezone, organized by some sorority. and we won!

so school's over, we partied one last time, i'm gonna have my last final and that wraps up my stay here in purdue. as much as i will miss my roomies (and their boyfriends), i'm actually looking forward to going to LA and dancing my head off. i really want to level up, i think i have been rather stagnant the past year or 2. and i could use the endorphins... need to move on and forget all the emotional shit i've been through this semester

yayi has been psyching me up so much!!! we're gonna stay really near debby reynolds! have our own apartment and pool and gym. and i will get to meet all the amazing people... rino and maryss!!! gigi!! teresa, tricia, matt cady, tony czar, rhapsody!! jp! juN! YAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! can't wait!!! and i get to meet my friends too!! and soosoo whom i havent seen in a million years is bringing me to magic mountain!!!

so i heard they recalled the exchange students in mexico and stuffed them in a chalet, isolated them and sent them food every now and then. I HOPE THAT DOESNT HAPPEN TO ME? these few days ive been feeling down and about, but i think its due to the spring & its pollen. i do not have swine flu.

i did want to note much much earlier that i love studying art and then going to art museums and "meeting" the artist through the piece. it saves you all the trouble of audio guides and you have a better idea of who the artist is, what he went through while making that piece of art and because you can put that all aside, you have time to absorb the piece in its entirety (save for time constraints) and gain new insights. every visit to an art museum means walking into a building and meeting new artists and new ideas or revisiting old friends i've heard about.

so, nygh aep girls... appreciate art history. and be there for the anniversary!!!

haha let me reply my tags!! i just got back from dance practice, am so tired. our show is on the 26th of April... i joined this group called higher ground, they put up a show every semester for a charity. i'm choreographing with fiona (she's in a lot of my pics) for a hip hop item ;) am doing one more lyrical item and another hh item. will put up pics/vids when i get down to taking them...

so i took a few classes while i was in nyc! didnt take photos with all the instructors...

jermaine browne... very inspirational
love the way he teaches... u can tell he's really passionate about teaching, not in it just for the money. he bothers to point out what you're doing wrong and is very blunt and frank with u... smth i have to learn.

sheryl murakami. sexiness personified. her classes are always full!! but shes so spunky and full of life, her personality and her routines are super fun

rhapsody... another inspiration. reminded us to live our lives to the fullest. love yourself. really talented choreographer, her routine was really shiok to dance.

LUAMMMM ... such a dream to attend her class. she so down to earth. choreography is SICK SICK SICK.

dancing in ny really puts things in perspective, i really feel (in fiona's words) like a small potato here. it sets new limits... makes me reassess myself. and this is just ny, i haven't even gone to LA yet. you can feel that the dancers here really want it... they're so passionate about dancing. every single time they do a routine its seriously FULL OUT. and their energy makes you wanna push hader too... the choreographers... are just amazing. talented people. think about the best dancers you know in sg...then you times 100. im really so blessed to have been able to attend their classes.

and by the time it was done everyone was uber full
so now we have a big pot of chilli keeping warm on our stove... mmm.

i know now why i dont like cooking.
cos it's super mahfan! you have to wash wash cut cut, wait for the pan to heat up, stuff everything in, wait forever again, put in bowl/plate, then eat then put everything back then wash wash wash...

today is sunday. sunday is a day of rest. rest means no cooking. therefore i am eating the leftover chilli with stale hotdog bread! (= recipe for diarrhoea?)

detergent largely only comes in bottled liquid forms, and softeners in sheets (vs powdered & liquid respectively)
we still use blackboards and if you know me, i can't stand blackboards. i can't stand the sound of chalk on the blackboard, and when i see one i picture nails scratching on the blackboard. even thinking about it gives me goosebumps. and i think chalk dust is unhealthy. and well the point is, i hate blackboards. i try not to think about it when i attend class. tis quite impossible

ooogay first week of school has been such a busy week!

today probably made up for the lack of snow during the previous days. it snowed a TON. i wanted to take photos but i lugged my cam out without the batt inside it :(

classes in US force you to read before hand by giving out graded questions the lesson before, and tutorials are very discussion based.

another thing is, textbooks are damn ex. so everyone buys from amazon.com

but since it takes time to get your books, what you can do is buy from the bookstore and then return them once you get your amazon books. HOW UNETHICAL? some people buy and then photocopy and return. i didn't feel comfortable buying and returning at first, but well, since everyone was doing it...

some people buy clothes and wear them for a night and then return them after as well. its the whole customers rights thing.

ive stocked up on instant food! (pop in microwave/just add water) and have been observing everyone while they cook. but my housemates all cook... so i offered some kind of barter. they cook, i wash dishes. hee hee.

random notes:

bras here are damn comfy and cheap. like from target or walmart. like USD$3-5
the americans use a 3-hole-punching system... i dont understand why. punchers are damn big, and files are all damn mafan to open.
tmr it's -16deg. i just want to stay home and HIBERNATE
im growing fat and cellulitish, and i am not exaggerating. if the weather keeps up like this, i will just keep hibernating.
lectures / tutorials are mostly an hour long, which takes getting used to because it's like the moment you take off all your coats and settle down and get into the right frame of mind, it's time to pack up
people here are very punctual. and pack up damn fast and leave damn fast.

on our way back we bought more food from shibuya to makan in our room
HEAVENLY HEAVENLY strawberry sponge cake with cream!!!
the cake was very light. the cream was fresh and light. and the strawberry was fresh and sweet.
i obviously can't become a food critique... anyway the main point is that it was YUMMY :)

while mum took a nap i watched a show about baby pandas. too cute.

then... off to eat RAMEN! at a cosy shop down the street

TSUKIJI MARKET

is the largest fish market in Tokyo
it opens at around 5am and people start auctioning fishes off
but i couldn't get up at that time
mum and i went anyway for some sashimi

sushi-dai was recommended by the guy working at the train station
japanese are always ready to help
but the queue was too incredibly long so we ate elsewhere...
but we still had to wait a good hour before we had our sashimi

sushi here generally has to be waited for but it's good!
mum said that the oysters were the best she had ever tasted
but i dont like the texture of oysters. like pi jui.

i've left home so many times for vacations, camps, staying in hall etc...
but this time leaving home felt surreal and very different
the fact that i'm leaving for 5 months still hasn't sunk in yet,
it probably will soon

so anyway, this blog is for those at home who are interested to know what's happening halfway around the globe and for us to keep in touch :)

i slept most of the time away on the plane and before i knew it i was in TOKYO!
taxi here is really expensive so mum and i lugged our gargantuan luggages up and down the metro stations. its 5 deg here, quite bearable.

i am a bit over-dressed...
